Padmavati Controversy: "BAN THE TRAILER," Demand Parliamentary Panel Members

Earlier today we told you that Sanjay Leela Bhansali left for Delhi to attend the Parliamentary Committee meeting on Padmavati. The meeting just concluded a short while back. We can tell you, Sanjay Leela Bhansali faced a barrage of questions and the committee asked him if the selective media screening of his film was aimed at influencing the CBFC.

PTI has reported that some panel members expressed their opposition to the trailer and said it should be banned along with the film. However, Prasoon Joshi told the panel that he had not seen the film as yet. When some members asked how the film had reached the UK when it had not been approved in India, the CBFC chief said it was an independent process.

"How could you assume that the movie could be released on December 1 when you applied to the CBFC on November 11. As per the cinematography act, the CBFC may take 68 days before certifying a movie," the parliamentary panel asked Sanjay Leela Bhansali today in a meeting held amid raging controversy over the historical film.

"Is selective media screening of the movie fair and ethical? Was it an act to influence the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)," the panel members asked.

According to PTI, “The committee also told Sanjay Leela Bhansali that his movies tend to target communities which produced tension between them. They asked if the creating a controversy was a new trend to sell the movie?”

In the morning, SpotboyE.com reported that the director-producer was spotted at the Mumbai airport while leaving to the capital. The panel has also called officials of the Information and Broadcasting ministry and Censor Board to discuss the film, which has been embroiled in controversy over allegations that it distorts history.

Actors Paresh Rawal and Raj Babbar, who are members of Parliament, are also part of the panel which will examine the issues relating to the movie.

Only time will tell if Padmavati will see the light of the day.
